PURPOSE OF POSITION
Reporting directly to Head of Design Department and working closely with the Creative Director & Founder, the Senior Fine Jewellery Designer is responsible for all aspects of the design process in relation to fine jewellery collections, one-of-a-kind pieces and bespoke items, collaborations and special projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design conceptualisation & development for fine jewellery collections, one-of-a-kind pieces, line extensions and new collections
- Create hand-drawn sketches of design concepts and presentation artwork within the house-style
- Create and execute manufacturer-ready technical drawings in Adobe Illustrator
- Develop and create hand-drawn client-facing bespoke designs within the company’s aesthetic
- Liaising with Creative Director, Production, Merchandising, Workshop and Sales on design & production
- Research concepts and new materials
- Designing embroidery for bespoke box commissions
- Working closely with the sales team on bespoke client orders. This involves meeting clients with the creative director or sales person
- Working closely with the production team on developing new product lines
- PD Creative Laboratory committee member
- Interface with clients on bespoke projects when needed; producing client facing presentation sketches to brief
- Support the sales team during their consultation with client’s when needed
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts or Masters Degree in Jewellery Design
- 5/8+ years of industry experience working as designer for a fine jewellery luxury brand
- Broad understanding of luxury fine jewellery, with a background designing for leading houses
- Experience in design innovative, commercial collections through to limited editions, one-of-a-kind pieces and bespoke commissions
- Bench experience a plus
- Experience in packaging and visual merchandising a plus
- Strong knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator
- Knowledge of textiles and embroidery a plus
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Highly creative with strong hand-drawing skills
- Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Word and Excel
- Strong design skills and ability to design within the company’s aesthetic
- Knowledge of jewellery manufacturing techniques and processes
- Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, from hand-crafted pieces through to overseas mass-production
- Must be proactive and a team player
- Illustration skills outside of jewellery is an advantage
- Takes direction
